Brakel is a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 8 km east of Gorinchem. Brakel was a separate municipality until 1999, when it became a part of Zaltbommel.〔Ad van der Meer and Onno Boonstra, "Repertorium van Nederlandse gemeenten", KNAW, 2006. ()〕 In 2001, the town of Brakel had 2515 inhabitants.
